Ghosts of the Past
Letho of Gulet, the Kingslayer, is hiding from Emhyr's bounty hunters on a booby-trapped farm in Velen. Help him deal with the man who sold him out and the hunters who came for him, and stay out of his last trick if you want it to work. At the end you can offer him shelter at Kaer Morhen, which brings him to the battle there.
Choices
3The bounty hunters
When Letho asks if you're coming
- "Course, I'll help you."
Letho's plan of attack: improvise.
- "This is between you and them."
Letho points out you got involved the moment you walked in. You fight anyway.
Vester
When Vester warns you not to make a false move
- "You're good as dead."
Fight. Letho's plan is ruined.
- "Don't want trouble."
Vester wants Letho's head for the bounty. Say "His medallion's all you need." and they take the medallion and ride off, which is what Letho wanted. "Changed my mind - you gotta die." means a fight after all.
Where Letho goes
After he wakes up
- "You could go to Kaer Morhen."
Letho isn't sure the Wolves will have him, but Geralt says to tell them he sent him. He has loose ends to tie up and then he'll go.
- "You'll find a place to hide."
He's had enough of swamps and thinks he'll try Zerrikania.
Walkthrough
5The farmstead
NextAn abandoned farm near Lindenvale is full of traps: tripwires, spiked pits, gas, exploding barrels. Disarm or avoid them, and use your Witcher Senses to trace a rustling to the barn. The loft is too high to reach, so find a ladder. Letho is waiting up there (25 XP). Emhyr wants him dead as an inconvenient witness, and he's been dodging killers ever since Loc Muinne.
Bounty hunters
Armed men arrive at the farm. Only Louis, an old acquaintance, knew where Letho was, so Louis sold him out. Whatever you say, Letho pulls you into the fight (see the choices). Kill all eight hunters (50 XP).
Louis
Ride with Letho to Louis' camp. Stay close: if you fall too far behind, Letho goes on alone and the quest ends there, and you won't see him again. Louis greets him as an old friend, Letho calls him a rat, and it comes to a fight. Kill the bandits (50 XP). Wounded, Louis admits Arnout Vester offered him half the bounty and a pardon from the emperor, and that Vester's men are in Lindenvale. Letho takes back the medicine he offered and leaves him.
Vester
Ride with Letho to Lindenvale. He sends a village boy off with some coin for his family, tells you to stay put and not interfere whatever happens, and blows up a barn to draw Vester out. They talk, one of Vester's men shoots Letho with a crossbow, and Letho takes six of them down before he falls. Vester turns to you (see the choices).
The Kingslayer's gambit
Examine Letho's body: Zanguebarian venom. He isn't dead. He paid off Vester's crossbowman so that everyone would see him die, and he has the antidote in his saddlebag. If you let Vester's men ride off with his medallion, word of Letho's death spreads and he's a free man. If you killed them, there's no one left to tell the story and he's annoyed. Either way, he wants to disappear (see the choices).
Rewards
At most 125 XP in one playthrough.
Tips
- Letho is only here if you didn't tell Voorhis you killed him, back in Imperial Audience. If you did, the farm holds wraiths instead and this quest never happens.
- Sending Letho to Kaer Morhen is how he joins the battle there. It doesn't go through Brothers in Arms.
- The same farm is the site of the contract The Fall of the House of Reardon. Letho has already cleared out the ghouls.

Journal
What does one expect to find inside an abandoned country manor? Dusty crockery. Moth-eaten doilies. A moldy trophy buck, perhaps, if its inhabitants trod on the wild side. Certainly not the most wanted man north or south of the Yaruga. Yet that, dear reader, is exactly who Geralt found when he entered such a manor in Lindenvale. The assassin of kings himself, Geralt's old acquaintance, his sometime friend and sometime enemy: Letho. He was hiding there from bounty hunters out for his scalp. Geralt, now fully able to remember how Letho and two of his colleagues once saved Yennefer's life, could not refuse him help.
What Letho did next proved he was both clever and fearless. In order to get rid of the bounty hunters breathing down his neck once and for all, he took a crossbow bolt to the chest and faked his own death. This caught Geralt by surprise, but he improvised splendidly. Convinced Letho was dead, Vester and his men rode off to spread the news far and wide. Letho could now simply lie low for a spell and wait for the world to forget about him...
What Letho did next proved he was both clever and fearless. In order to get rid of the bounty hunters breathing down his neck once and for all, he took a crossbow bolt to the chest and faked his own death. This caught Geralt by surprise, and sadly the witcher doesn't always handle surprises with much tact or subtlety. Instead, he usually does what he did this time, namely murder all and sundry within sword's reach. There were thus no witnesses to spread the false news of Letho's death, and the wanted man was right back where he started.
Geralt proposed that his old acquaintance seek shelter at Kaer Morhen. Letho hesitated, but in the end accepted the offer.
Somewhere along the way Geralt parted with Letho. To this day no one knows if he did this on purpose or merely got lost, but one thing is certain - the two witchers' paths never crossed again.
While traversing the inhospitable lands of Velen, Geralt came across an abandoned farming estate. Upon entering the estate's farmhouse, he discovered that, though seemingly uninhabited, it was crammed full of deadly traps. Someone clearly did not want any uninvited guests snooping around the place. Geralt decided to find out who - and why.
